Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the Italian Hall disaster which happened on Christmas Eve, 1913, in Calumet, Michigan. Here is the piece I wrote on it a couple of years ago.

Lived in Michigan all my life and never knew this story.

Since it happened in the UP, many people think of it as a “UP” story and not a “Michigan” one. But it really should be more widely known.

Quick question for you, hope you don’t mind me asking.
I know the state I’m in has one-party consent laws for recording, but my question is: am I considered a party to a conversation, and therefore able to consent to the recording, if I am not in my car and my dash cam is running? i.e. Whatever conversations my dash cam might record a valet having in my car?
Thanks!

Not if you are not present. In MICH (and I suspect other one-party states) you must be a party to the conversation, which you cannot be if y ou are not there.
The trick would be to just disable the audio if you are not present.

That’s exactly what I needed to know, thank you.

I typically leave my dash cam on when I valet my Duesenberg.
